Specific Phobia

In specific phobia (also called isolated phobia), individuals experience intense fear of specific objects or situations. Social, everyday, and professional aspects of life are significantly restricted.

Common fears include animals (e.g., spiders, dogs), natural phenomena (e.g., thunderstorms, bodies of water), injuries (e.g., needles, blood), or situations (e.g., fear of flying, heights, tunnels).

Affected individuals avoid the feared objects/situations or endure them only under intense fear. They are also aware that these objects or situations pose no real danger, and the intense fear reaction is disproportionate.
