Depersonalization
Depersonalization refers to a sense of self-alienation. One feels detached from oneself, one experiences oneself as unreal and strange. For example, body parts may feel disproportionate (too large, too small, too heavy, too light), numbness may occur, or the feeling of being remotely controlled may arise.
Note: Most people occasionally experience brief episodes of depersonalization, for example, in acute stress situations or during a panic attack. This is not considered to be a clinical condition. Only about 1% of the population suffers from clinically relevant depersonalization.
