PTSD

PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a mental illness that arises as a result of a severe traumatic experience. These are events and situations that threaten life, safety, and integrity, such as sexual or physical violence, serious accidents, natural disasters, war, or illness. The individual may be directly affected, but PTSD can also occur when one witnesses a terrible event.

Those affected often experience a constant sense of threat and have recurring distressing memories (intrusions, flashbacks, and nightmares). Memory gaps and avoidance behavior of activities, situations, and people related to the traumatic experience may also occur. Increased anxiety and sleep disorders are additional symptoms.
