Contraindications
The application should not be used in the presence of any of the following conditions or limitations:
- Schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders (F20-24, F28, F29)
- Bipolar affective disorder (F31)
- Severe depressive episode with psychotic symptoms (F32.3)
- Recurrent depressive disorder, currently severe episode with psychotic symptoms (F33.3)
- Severe cognitive impairments
- Suicidality and suicide attempts
Clarification: Suicidality applies if there has been a serious intention to take one's own life within the last 90 days (regardless of whether a concrete plan for implementation existed).
Exposure exercises must not be performed in an acute state of intoxication following the intake of a psychotropic substance, such as alcohol, opioids, cannabinoids, sedatives or hypnotics, cocaine, hallucinogens, tobacco and volatile solvents (F10.0-F14.0, F16.0-F18.0).

For the following conditions or limitations, the treating physician or psychotherapist should be consulted and, where appropriate, the performance of certain exposure exercises should be avoided:
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Respiratory diseases
- Photosensitive epilepsy (G40)
- Pregnancy
